Supplementation of cell culture media is frequently required to provide additional nutrients for optimal performance of cells in culture. UFC Biotechnology MEM Non- Essential Amino Acids Solution is used as a growth supplement for cell culture medium, to increase cell growth and viability. MEM Non-Essential Amino Acids Solution is formulated to contain 100X the non-essential amino acids found in the standard MEM. MEM Non-Essential Amino Acids Solution formulation includes glycine, L-alanine, L-asparagine, L-aspartic acid, L-glutamic acid, L-proline and L-serine. The addition of MEM Vitamin Solution to media will enhance cell growth and viability of cells in culture. Additionally, the biosynthetic burden on cells in vitro can be reduced by MEM Vitamin solution. This solution is prepared in 0.85% saline. Pyruvate is a key player in the cellular metabolic pathways. Sodium Pyruvate is commonly added to cell culture medium as an energy source in addition to glucose. Since the cells make sodium pyruvate as an intermediate metabolite in the glycolysis pathway, it is not necessary to supplement all cultures. However, some cell lines require the addition of pyruvate to culture media since they lack the ability to convert glucose or amino acids into pyruvate. Sodium pyruvate is supplied as a liquid supplement for cell culture media at 100 mM (100X) and a final concentration of 11,004 mg/L. 2-Mercaptoethanol (also known as beta-mercaptoethanol) is a potent reducing agent used in cell culture medium to prevent toxic levels of oxygen radicals. Mercaptoethanol is not stable in solution so most protocols require daily supplementation.
